Accident Claims For Sporting Injuries

Everyone know that if you are playing a sport there is always a risk of picking up an injury. You could fall over in the middle of the pitch for no reason, the ball could hit you in the face or you could slide into the post in a very painful manner such as the former Liverpool player Phil Babb famously did in the 90s!

However, what a lot of people do not know is that if you are injured while playing sport, and were not at fault for the accident then you could get compensation. Accident claims as a result of a sporting injury are becoming more common as more people realise that it is possible.

The main sporting injuries that lead to accident claims are usually as a result of dangerous tackles in contact sports such as football or rugby. There have been high profile cases of dangerous tackles in football, none more horrific than Roy Keane’s tackle on Alf Inge Haaland, which Keane later admitted in his book was a deliberate act. Haaland had to retire as a result of this injury, and was taking legal advice over a possible injury claim. Of course there are legal, accidental tackles that still cause serious injury, but these are part of the game and cannot lead to litigation.

The other reason people sue because of sporting injuries is faulty equipment. This can be faulty gym equipment, defective protective clothing or a damaged trampoline. These accident claims come because they are accidents as far as you are concerned, but not from the point of view of the owners of the equipment and venue. Negligence from an instructor or trainer can also lead to compensation claims.

What some people don’t know is that you can even claim compensation if you are injured as a sports spectator. This is again down to the facilities and venue, and if these are unsafe and you get hurt then you could also get compensation!
